Snow, Snow, Snow, and some PennDOT

Well for anyone that doesn't know it snows in Pennsylvania. It snows a lot sometimes in Pennsylvania. Last month there was a snow storm on Valentine's day which caused many of the interstates to shut down and leave thousands and thousands of motorists stranded on the roads, some up to 18 hours.

This has been a huge topic around this area. People really enjoy complaining about it and sticking it to our governor. I know exactly what the problem was. They cut funds to do something else. I'm sure that something else is something really awesome to. I bet they put more funds into renovations of the governors mansion. Maybe buy him a new sports car, or better yet buy President Bush a new mountain bike. Unfortunately those budget cuts in the area of snow removal put a hurting to the state and more importantly the roads in the state.

Currently it is snowing about an inch an hour outside. Hopefully there has been some improvements with the snow removal. I don't want to hear people complain about the roads again. I don't complain about the roads, just complain about people complaining about the roads. I can handle the snow. Hope this doesn't turn into the St. Patrick's Day storm we will remember similar to last month. Keep up the good work PennDOT.

Time Travel Impossible.....For Now

This is kind of upsetting news for me when I heard it. I am very big on time travel and I love reading and watching stories related to time travel. Unfortunately scientists have deemed time travel impossible at this point in time. Of course you can always travel into the future, but so is everyone else around you at the same time. By the time you are done reading this blog you will have traveled through time. Unfortunately you can't go back in time.

Obviously these scientists were not paying attention to Doc Brown in Back to the Future. All you need to travel through time is a Flux Capacitor and some strategically set up time circuits. Along with that you need a little plutonium to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity you need to spark the time circuits. Go to the movie store and pick it up then buy a Delorean and get to work.

One day of course we will be there and have the ability to travel through time as we please. But maybe not, because it doesn't seem like there are people coming from the future now. Or at least none of them have let us know or prove it to us. Maybe its just can't happen on the planet or you just can't travel back in time. Theorists have stated that if you got in a space ship and traveled at the speed of sound for a certain amount of time and returned to earth then you would of only aged a year and the earth over millions of years.

This is to complicated for me to fully understand, let along anyone except Doc Brown. Of course I would love to travel in time and who wouldn't. It would of course probably tear a hole in the space time continuum. So fire up the flux capacitor and get back to me on this one yesterday.

Textbook Pricing

Being a college student myself I keep an eye on the prices of textbooks. Everyone I know at school will complain about the prices of their textbooks. An article on cnn.com covered how some legislators are trying to control the prices of textbooks for college students. Some students have to spend upwards of $4,000 for their books over a four year span. It is what they like to call a hidden cost of higher education. This is what the textbook publishers say in response to proposals of pricing controls:

Publishers have argued that such proposals interfere with their constitutional rights, threaten the academic freedom of faculty members, and ignore the economics of textbook publishing. Textbooks are costly, in part, because relatively few copies are sold, they say.

I have to agree with the textbook companies. I think they got the right idea making lots and lots of money off rich college students. Most of the students are just using the books to figure out ways to soon be the ones selling the books to students in the future. Its a multi-billion dollar business and goes hand in hand with colleges funds as bookstores make money off re-selling used textbooks.

I have had some three years experience of dealing with bookstore shenanigans and can get around it nowadays. I think from the past couple years I have actually turned a profit on some of my books. Buying and selling your textbooks on
Amazon.com or Half.com or Textbooks.com can seriously save some money. These sites allow you to buy used books and then sell them back on the same site. I hope anyone looking to go to college starts their years buying books online as this can save you some serious money and maybe make some money in the process. Undercut those textbook companies and turn a profit on their expense.

Bush's Spring Break to South America

President Bush has a trip planned for the next six days in South America. I read some articles on the trip from msnbc.com and crosswalk.com. Both news sites agrees that the president has neglected Latin American relations because of the war in Iraq. I think president Bush needs to learn how to manage his time. Hes been spending all his time vacationing over in Iraq and he forgot all the wonderful things about South America.

Unfortunately I do not think that this trip to South America will help the relations with the governments there at all. The people down there hate America and specifically Bush. I of course agree that they have more than good reason to hate us and our glorious leader. If Bush keeps on what he is doing to South America we could easily be invading Venezuela next year because they have threats of weapons to harm us. They'll probably have aluminum tubes or some other scary stuff like that.

Now of course there is some good that can come out of Mr Bush's trip down there. He will stir up some relations with Brazil
and the alternative fuel projects. Brazil has more than enough corn and sugarcane products there to fuel our ethanol projects. He also plans to stop in Columbia to make negotiations regarding the drug trade. All good stuff right? Well most of the time Bush will be followed by countless protests that claim America to be imperialistic and imposing their will on everyone around the world. Along with that the Venezuelan President has his own counter tour of the continent to coincide with the Presidents.

I think the President needs to stop imposing his will on everyone and stop making everyone want to have a democracy. I mean democracy works but other forms of government can work just as well in other parts of the world. I hope the next president will do a better job keeping the United States in the good graces of the rest of the world. I think anyone will be more liked around the world than George Bush.

Captain America Assassinated

Here is my first real official post. I found this article on cnn.com on found it to be quite upsetting. It involved the death of a very liked and patriotic superhero. This superhero is none other than Captain America.

Now I can't say I am a expert on Captain America but I know enough about the comic book to be somewhat turned. Captain America of course runs around and saves America from the threat of communism or terrorism or any of that American hating propaganda. He was real big in the 1960s and 50s after the war cause he fought off all the threats to America.

All that Captain America heroism is now gone. Marvel Comics has now killed him off in the latest issue. How can Marvel comics do this? Well they write the comic books so they can really do whatever they want. What is the logic behind this assassination? Apparently Captain America is going on trial for violating a law in the new superhero registration act. This law that he violated proceeded to start a 9/11 like event. He then is shot while walking into the courthouse. Apparently bullets kill Captain America. Superman can break any law he wants though.

Captain America is dead. Yes. Marvel comics hopes to make this some sort of an issue relating to the Patriot Act and The War on Terror. I'm not really sure how this can relate to the United States and The Laws we have here. We don't have any superheros, we aren't superheros ourselves, there aren't any superheros trying to save us. So what the hell are they trying to prove. I would hope to look into this further cause the Patriot Act is supposed to help protect the country against terrorism and not kill superheros.
